Reasons to Plant a Bulb Lawns:
Plant once and done!
These bulbs will multiply and you’ll get more flowers every year. Great investment!
- Provides important early season pollen and nectar for pollinators
- Choose single flowering bulbs so insects can reach the pollen and nectar more easily.
- No Mow May, less work, good for wildlife, don’t mow until the foliage is yellow
- Low inputs, water once after planting
Unless you live in an arid climate, watering once to settle the soil around the newly planted bulbs is enough. Generally speaking, fall rain will to the rest.

Chose the Best Site
- Low traffic area
​If your pets or children mostly play in the back yard, choose the front
- Most bulbs thrive in full sun, 6 hours per day but will also tolerate partial shade
- Planting spring bulbs under deciduous shrubs and trees will work because they will bloom ​before the foliage leafs out.
- Bulbs prefer average soil with a neutral pH.
- The soil must be well-drained. No standing water.

When to Plant
• September to October — Zones 4 and 5
• October to early November — Zones 6 and 7
• November to early December — Zones 8 and 9
• Late December to early January — Zone 10
