I spend the day in Trinidad, a city of twenty thousand inhabitants in Santa Barbara, Honduras. I visit its restaurants, shops, streets, street food stalls, and characters. A grandmother invites me to visit her house, one of the oldest buildings in the city. I realize that many Hondurans in the city have green eyes. I am told by the locals that their eyes come from their Spanish lineage, and according to the internet, Sephardic Jews who came to Honduras in the 1700s.
