Begawan's vet and bird-keeper work together, observing behaviour of the birds in the socialisation enclosures to create pairs of Bali Starlings that show an attraction to each other.

On 1 November, Begawan released one Bali Starling, and its partner on 2 November. The release took place from the enclosure in the compound of the Kelian Tebekauh, after a two-month environment habituation period.

The goal of Begawan’s conservation is to release 20 birds each year, and this pair are already the 10th and 11th birds to be released in 2022. We hope that they will start to breed and thus increase the number of birds we have currently flying free in the wild.
