Tesla has developed the most sophisticated electric vehicles that use software to do near autonomous driving. The software has been developed using neural networks that train on millions of video clips of owners driving their cars. The current software is known as Full Self-Driving (Supervised), specifically, FSD v12.3.6. As described in the FSD 12.3.6 (Supervised) release notes, a Tesla EV using FSD 12.3.6 can drive almost anywhere. The vehicle can make lane changes, select forks to follow the GPS navigation route, navigate around other vehicles and obstacles, make left and right turns and obey local traffic rules, such as speed limits, and traffic control signs and traffic lights. Since the EV is not truly autonomous under FSD v12.3.6 (Supervised) the driver must be alert and be prepared to take control of the vehicle.
This video briefly describes the hardware (Hardware 4 or HW4) and software FSD v12.3.6 installed in my Model 3 automobile. The video also describes the route taken and conditions encountered for the test. Finally, the video includes a 14-minute segment of the Model 3 driving for 7.4 miles using FSD 12.3.6. The 2024 Model 3 completed the drive using Tesla Vision perfectly! I love my Tesla Model 3!
