Telegram was hacked recently... Are you compromised? Are your data safe? What happened?

The recent vulnerability in Telegram's Windows application involved a typographical error in the handling of file extensions, specifically ".pyzw". This mistake allowed Python scripts encapsulated in these files to execute automatically without triggering security warnings when users clicked on them, believing they were accessing harmless media like videos. This flaw posed a severe security risk, potentially allowing attackers to gain complete control over a victim's computer. Such complete system compromise could lead to data theft, installation of further malware, or unauthorized use of system resources. Were you affected? If you had not opened any files with the ".pyzw" extension from your Windows Application recently, then you are probably safe... until next time.
