Lotus has introduced its newest gem, the Emeya, during a grandiose event in New York City. Formerly known as the Type 133, this all-electric four-door sedan is poised to compete with notable names like the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan Turbo. Featuring state-of-the-art technology, it marks Lotus's return to the four-door market after their Opel Omega-based Carlton from the 1990s.

A standout feature of the sedan is its commitment to Active Aerodynamics. This includes an active grille, first debuted on the Eletre SUV, designed to curtail drag and boost efficiency when closed, and provide cooling for the battery and brakes when open.

The vehicle also comes equipped with an active front spoiler, a diffuser inspired by the world of motorsports, and an active rear spoiler to heighten downforce — perfect for handling winding terrains and racetrack driving. The extensive rear spoiler, which stretches 11.0 inches (280 millimeters) and is 3.9 inches broader than that on the Eletre, generates a downforce of 474 pounds (215 kilograms) at an undisclosed speed.

The Emeya is built on the same foundational platform as the Eletre, utilizing the unique Electric Premium Architecture (EPA) which is derived from Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA).

Its range is anticipated to parallel that of the Eletre, which boasts a 373-mile range based on the optimistic WLTP cycle. The Emeya is powered by a 102 kWh battery pack, a tad smaller than Eletre's 112 kWh pack. This sedan supports 350 kilowatt charging, allowing for an impressive 93 miles of range in a mere five minutes, and a 10-80 percent charge in 18 minutes using a 350 kW DC fast charger.

The Emeya's performance stats rival those of hypercars. Producing 905 horsepower and 726 pound-feet of torque, it can propel itself from 0-62 mph in a staggering 2.8 seconds. The AWD EV has its top speed capped at 159 mph. The sedan uses a two-speed transmission to distribute power across all wheels, and according to Lotus, it's equipped with a "race-grade" braking system. From a chassis perspective, its adjustable suspension possesses the capability to scan the road surface 1,000 times every second.

Ben Payne, the Vice President of Design at Lotus Group, commented on the release: "This is a completely reimagined Lotus. Building upon everything Lotus has achieved so far, we have crafted a luxury vehicle that promises exceptional performance for driving enthusiasts. It's a design to evoke both confidence and thrill.”
