The annual statistics of scientific procedures on living animals in Great Britain in 2022 have been released.

The total number of procedures on animals in 2022 was 2,761,204, which is a 10% decrease from 2021.

The most commonly used animals in #AnimalResearch in Great Britain in 2022 were mice (71.39%), fish (13.44%), rats (6.73%), and birds (4.93%). Some animals are given extra protections in GB law, and these animals can only be used in research when no other animal is suitable. Overall, protected species were used in 0.53% of GB research in 2022.
