In this video of this amazing deck transformation, ‪@Sharonshesofabulous‬ and I will not only transform an existing deck but go through the entire process of building a "semi" freestanding deck extension. I say semi, because the new deck will not be attached to the house via a ledger board but it will be attached to the original deck which solidifies left to right movement. Y-bracing is still needed in the front to stop both front to back swaying and left to right swaying. This deck building is SOLID! It meets and exceed all local code requirements.

More videos will be coming to break down various aspects of this deck build but if you are handy, this simple full time lapse should answer many, if not all, questions you may have.

We chose to go with Deckorators' black aluminum round deck balusters and Eapele deck railing brackets connectors to give it more of a modern look and added both powered and solar powered lights throughout. This build took time and effort but was well worth the final result. The vide is just amazing during the day and at night. The canopies provide superior protection from the sun and both canopies have screens that can be wrapped around the seating areas to protect us from the insects.
