How to build a covered structure and daybed swing to take your backyard to the next level!

We took a short break from building our Dream Home so we could build this beautiful covered backyard daybed swing I designed. We used treated lumber and the beautiful black powder coated Outdoor Accents Avant Collection from Simpson Strong-Tie to join the structure together.

We finished the roof by installing a stained DIY tongue and groove ceiling before adding the cedar shakes to the roof. We built the full size daybed and I made an outdoor waterproof cover for it on my sewing machine. I also enclosed the mattress with an outdoor protective zip up cover under the cover I sewed using outdoor fabric in the color Bliss Sand.

I designed the structure to be a shady spot for the daybed swing as well as swapping the daybed out for 4 hammock chairs when we have family and friends visit. This structure could be built and used for so many different backyard things. You can also customize it to accommodate any kind of swing your family would enjoy or for a little backyard shade over a patio table! The sky is the limit and using the Outdoor Accents Avant Collection made assembling our structure a breeze.

We can't wait to relax and enjoy many sunsets from our new favorite spot in the yard!
