Current events never slow down. Dr. Lisa and Dr. Shaunna had no shortage of topics to cover this week. Our ten-minute-or-so dives in to each topic just skim the surface.

Phase 1 [1:15] : Crown Act in Texas: Finally, the trial that will determine if the Barbers Hill Independent School District violated Texas' Crown Act will be held on Feb. 22. Darryl George has been repeatedly placed on in-school suspension for his locked (yet pinned up!) hair. We see race (and gender!) all over the Texas law, so listen in.

Phase 2 [13:43]: Oscar Nods are Out: Some folks were surprised that Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie did not receive a nomination (we weren't), however Ryan Gosling and prolific Latina, America Ferrera did! We query the nominations of marginalized folks who weren't lifted to light and how awards shows are necessary but problematic for actors.

Phase 3 [26:10] : Trans Panic: Even as we try not to become desensitized, we are devastated yet not surprised that another trans woman (in Dr. Shaunna's county!) was murdered by her intimate partner after revealing she was not assigned female at birth. We mourn the life of Taya Ashton while simultaneously providing resources like Dr. A.C. Fowlkes new book, "Transgender Inclusion" to educate and develop allies along the way.
