Use your imagination to travel back in time…below on the banks of the Red River, York boats rowed by a Métis crew arrived with furs from across the continent. The York boat was truly an innovation inspired by the rugged wilderness of western and northern Canada! To share the York boat and Métis story today, Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site has collaborated with Métis woodworkers and crafts persons to build three York boats.
