This modern-day drama will follow around our young closeted protagonist on his journey of realisation and self-discovery, all whilst he is trying to find his online lover, Noah. One of the most important aspects of this will be to encourage the audience to get involved using the multimedia clue book, making something that is fun and exciting to complete, without it being too difficult that it becomes frustrating.

Blue Boy includes the theme of self-discovery, as throughout the film, ELI begins to understand who he is, and that who he is isn’t something to be ashamed of. Acceptance is another theme, as ultimately, the reason ELI doesn’t want to come out is because he is scared of what people may think. Love is also a main theme throughout as the film is centred around ELI’s quest to discover the clues to find his true love. Realisation is the final theme, as throughout the progression of the film, ELI begins to realise that it may not be NOAH that he is actually searching for.

Blue Boy is categorised under the LGBTQ+ Romance genre. This is a genre that is becoming increasingly popular amongst younger people, with the releases of Love Simon, and Alex Strangelove. The genre usually focuses on areas of self-discovery, finding love and acceptance, ultimately becoming happy with themselves in their new equilibrium. Through ELI’s journey he will gain the acceptance he’s been wanting from his mother and find his true love in the end.
