A memorial service held at Manchester Cathedral was packed this morning as mourners took the opportunity to say goodbye to both Anne, and her character of 43 years Deirdre Barlow. Anne, who died of cancer in January 2015, was one of the show's best-known performers and was loved by millions for her portrayal of husky-voiced Deirdre, famed for many years for her oversized spectacles. Cast members including her on-screen husband William Roache (pictured bottom left), who plays Ken Barlow, and on-screen granddaughter Elle Mulvaney delivered moving readings at the service for the 'caring, lovable and funny' Coronation Street star. And Anne's husband Dave Beckett (top left) ensured his late wife had the last laugh of the service when the opening bars of the EastEnders theme tune belted out of the speakers before the real closing music was played.
