Ghee Sakranti, also known as 'Ghee Purnima' or 'Ashaadhi Purnima,' is a significant festival celebrated in the state of Uttarakhand, India. This auspicious occasion falls on the full moon day (Purnima) of the Ashaadha month in the Hindu calendar. It holds deep cultural, agricultural, and spiritual significance for the people of Uttarakhand.

Ghee Sakranti marks the beginning of the ghee-making process, symbolizing the traditional connection of the Uttarakhandi people with their natural resources. This festival embodies the essence of gratitude for the bounties of nature and the importance of harmonious coexistence with the environment.

On this day, the communities come together to celebrate the richness of their land's resources, especially milk and dairy products. The festival highlights the integral role of dairy farming in Uttarakhand's agrarian economy and showcases the locals' deep-rooted agricultural practices.

Families gather to engage in various rituals, prayers, and traditional activities. They offer prayers to deities and seek blessings for a bountiful harvest, prosperity, and well-being. The making of ghee is ceremoniously initiated, symbolizing the abundance of resources during this time of the year.
