The hike to the top of Half Dome, towering over the Yosemite Valley at 8,846 feet, is one of the great bucket list hikes. You’ll pass iconic waterfalls, hike through majestic sequoias, and then pull yourself up steel cables to stand on the summit.

Climbing Half Dome in Yosemite National Park, and concurring the cables, is an extremely strenuous and breathtaking 18.5-mile round trip hike from Curry Village via the mist trail. You will pass two beautiful waterfalls, Vernal Falls (318 feet) and Nevada Fall (594 feet), during the hike and climb 5,305 feet. As you will see in this video, if you hike between May and July be prepared to get soaked from the mist trail as you approach Vernal Fall.

I started the hike at 5:30 am and finished at 3:30 pm, completing the hike in ten hours which included a 30-minute break on top of Half Dome. Parking at Curry Village added a total of two miles (worth if for ice cream at the end) to the hike.
