Chinese new year dragon dance or lunar new year parade is held by Chinese in different cities around late January and early February. In Chinese new year dragon dance, people will do a traditional dance in a a dragon or lion custom in front of different restaurants and merchants. The lion or the dragon custom is pretty big and two people are needed to wear it and move it. After the special lion dance which is specific to the Chinese new year dragon dance and will show on Lunar new year, the restaurant owner do a fire cracker show in front of the lions which makes them happy and after that they give lettuce to the dancers. Now lions are happy, shred the lettuce and do the thank you dance for the restaurant owner.
Chinese new year dragon dance is one of the most important eventsin Chinese culture and many people bring their children to watch the parade and become more familiar whit traditions related to Chinese new year.
In 2023 Chinese community in Philadelphia held the Chinese new year parade in Chinatown on January 22th and I was lucky to record a good view of the celebration in different corners.
