Mary | Women of the Bible

Summary: Mary Chosen to Conceive Jesus, Luke 1:26-38

Mary was a virgin who was living in the town of Nazareth. God sent an angel to her to give her the message that God favored her and would conceive a son named Jesus who would reign over Israel forever. When the angel told her this, Mary questioned him, asking how this would happen since she was a virgin. The angel reassured her that the Holy Spirit would come upon her and that her son would be the Son of God. Mary’s answer was one of faith and obedience. Luke 1:38 says, “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.” (Bold and Italics Added, NIV)

Calling & Obedience
God had a plan for Mary’s life and showed favor to her. Mary gave us a great example of submission and obedience to God’s will. Through Jesus Christ, God has a plan for our lives and favor for our lives as well. (Jeremiah 29:11) It wasn’t just Mary that God had a plan for - God does not show favorites! (Romans 2:11) We can follow in Mary’s example and humbly submit to the plans that God has for our lives. (James 4:7)
