In this video I want to show everyone how to make flare flange tips on large pipes, more specifically, flares on exhaust pipes. I also want to say a big thank you to everyone at Reddit /r/metalworking for helping me with this project. I guess the most common reason to have a flare flange on large diameter pipe is for automotive exhaust systems. The problem is that there are no cheap tools to do this type of metalworking. In fact, it’s hard to even find companies that supply this type of exhaust pipe with the fare tip at the end. So I’ll show you how to make this flare, but I want to hear from everyone out there why there are no cheap tools to make this flare on large pipes, or exhaust pipes? I think it’s totally possible to make a simple tool that can create a flare without having to use heavy equipment that cost thousands of dollars. I’m not an engineer, so maybe I’m wrong. With that being said, I can tell you that using a hydraulic press and a steel ball bearing will make a flare very quick and easily, and it’s very affordable.
