Scale pattern 1, aka the 1 string repeat pattern, is a super basic and easy pattern to learn and use. It's built by playing a scale on one string and repeating then moving to the next string and starting the pattern again. Exercise 5 somewhat alters the basis for this pattern by starting each cycle of the pattern on every scale degree instead of every string. This means the pattern is applied three times in three different positions on each string before moving to the next string. This also adds to its difficulty to execute, visualize, and memorize. This exercise is great for practical use in soloing and offers excellent practice in thinking and reacting fast because of the constant position and fingering changes.
