Harlingen, Texas-based entrepreneur Bill DeBrooke lives in a converted 3-story office building that houses his vast collection including historic art, cameras, televisions, radios, appliances, and neon signs. DeBrooke also owns several other buildings in the city and has a history of renting out affordable spaces to artists, galleries and arts organizations.
In addition to hundreds of artworks purchased from local artists during the monthly Harlingen Art Night, his collection also includes major paintings by Jesús Helguera, Alexandre Hogue, and William Louis Sonntag, among others. For this video, Michael Flanagan visited DeBrooke at his home in Harlingen to document his collection and the pair discuss topics ranging from early 20th century photography and Art Deco to his experiences managing a chain of video stores and offering construction advice to Alexandre Hogue during a visit to the artists studio in the 1970s.
