I’m Professor Ruth Zadoks, working here at the Sydney Infectious Diseases Institute and the Sydney School of Veterinary Science.

My team focuses on animal health, and I'm particularly interested in diseases caused by microbes that crossover between humans and animals.

Animals can give diseases to people, but people can also give diseases to animals. So it's a two way street.

Like people, animals need health care, diagnostic tests, vaccines and disease control programs.

In collaboration with clinicians, mathematical modelers, social scientists and many others, we try to develop, evaluate, and then implement tools to improve the health of animals and the people that care for them.

Together, we can improve animal welfare, food safety, human nutrition, and people's livelihoods in developed and developing countries in our region and around the globe.
