Pandharpur is the seat of Hindu god Vithoba also known as Vitthal

Ashadhi wari starts in hindu calendar month named Jyeshtha and after 21 days pilgrimage reaches Pandharpur on 10th day of lunar calendar month Ashadh.
on 11th day of lunar calendar Ashadhi Ekadashi is getting celebrated by few thousands people who walks with many Dindis in Wari.
In hindu month of Kartik and Magh also similar kind of event if been celebrated.

Out of these many dindi or palakhi in Wari, Sant Dnyaneshwar dindi and Sant Tukaram dindi is considered as two main and big dindis.
Sant Dnyaneshwar dindi starts from Alandi (Pune district in Maharashtra) and walks through Pune - Sasvad - Jejuri - Lonand - Taradgaon - Phaltan - Natepute - Malshiras - Velapur - Shegaon -Vakhari and finally reach at Pandharpur to conclude the Wari.

The whole is divided into a sub groups called as Dindi. There are more than 200 Dindi on each route.
Each dindi has between 100 and 500 members. The palkhi is at the centre of the Wari procession and around half the number of Dindi are ahead of the palkhi and the other half are behind.
All Dindis are assigned their number and position in the procession and the sequence is strictly followed. The timetable of Wari route is published well in advance and is strictly followed.
It is well defined and minute details are made available including starting location, the location of breaks including lunch, rest, night stay location.
Every morning, early dawn, after worshiping the Sanits footwear, the palkhi sets out at 6am. A Tutari (wind instrument) is blown thrice to alert all Warkaris. At the first signal, all Warkaris get ready to leave. At the second signal, the dindis stand in the queue as per designated sequence and at the third signal, they starts walking.
After 4 to 5 km, they take a quick break for breakfast. They break for lunch as per the given schedule.

The person who walks through Pandharichi Wari is called as Varkari and all these Varkaris together form popular varkari cult in Maharashtra.
