Here's how to build a 5'8″ long farmhouse buffet, which I keep wanting to call a hutch or a console. You can do this! I liked it so much I built two of them! The main body of this DIY furniture build is made with 3/4″ white birch plywood, and the top is made with 2×8 douglas fir boards. This hutch features two sliding barn doors and adjustable shelves. The second hutch took me around 10 hours to build and then a few days, a little over an hour each day, to paint and stain. I built this in May of 2021, in the era of super high lumber prices, and it cost me just over $400 for lumber and supplies. On my website post you'll find everything you need to build your own farmhouse buffet, including step by step directions, lumber needed, cut lists, and supplies and tools used.

STEP BY STEP DIRECTIONS FOR THE FARMHOUSE BUFFET

STEP 1: BOTTOM AND SIDE PANELS

CUTS NEEDED:
Side Panels:(2) 32" x 18 ¼" (¾" Birch Plywood)
Bottom Frame: (2) 63 ½" , (2) 15 ¼" (2 x 3 Pine)
Bottom Panel: 63 ½" x 18 ¼" (¾" Birch Plywood)

STEP 1 DIRECTIONS:
Start by cutting the side panels. Double and triple check measurements! Then cut something wrong and recut! (Maybe that's just me.)
Next cut the 63 ½" long 2×3's.
Drill pocket holes in each end of the 2×3's. Set jig to ¾" for longer boards since they will be connected to ¾" plywood. Then set the jig to 1 ½" for the shorter boards.
Attach 2×3's to side panels. I did this by laying one side panel on edge (front of panel on the ground). Then I glued, clamped, and fastened one 2×3 to a panel with 1 ¼" pocket hole screws. (Pocket hole clamps are very handy here). Next I attached the other side panel to that same 2×3. Then I flipped the whole thing around so the back of the side panels were on the ground, and attached the second 2×3. Please refer to video.

Note: I used 1 ¼" pocket hole screws to attach 2×3's to side panels.
Double check the measurement and cut the frame 2×3 cross boards. These should measure about 15 ¼"......
