I have no idea what this species of wood I'm using is but I cut it down into a 4x4 block and put a 45 degree dado in it slightly wider than the thickness of my phone. I trimmed off part of the front triangle to give it some detail...don't trim off too much or you phone will slip. Then I rounded all the corners and sanded it to 220 grit.


This is great if you're looking for something quick to do with your scrap wood, especially if you sell things at shows. Make about 10 in an hour and sell them for $5-$10 each.


You don't even need a table saw. You could use a handsaw and a miterbox. Just notch out the dado with a saw, then knock everything out with a chisel and sand it down.
