A return to the Severn Valley for my first visit in nearly 5 years for their Autumn Steam gala. Visiting engines were not of the superstar variety for this event, but were appropriate for the line in the shape of 45231 and 9351. 'Jessie' from the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway provided a contrast and an industrial presence. The event was mainly focussed, initially, on the public relaunch of 4930 'Hagley Hall', considered the flagship locomotive for the SVR. Unfortunately it had to be withdrawn on the Friday evening after starting a number of lineside fires (an ongoing legacy of the dry, hot summer of 2022). The event also represented the final gala appearances of 2857 and 1501, as well as 34027 'Taw Valley' in her last outing in the Jubilee purple livery (given an extra poignancy by the death a week earlier of HM Queen Elizabeth II).
