On 9 February 1942 the famous French ocean liner, the SS Normandie, transformed into a troopship, is destroyed by fire. Officially, the incident is attributed to the Nazis; in reality the sabotage is the handiwork of the notorious American gangster Lucky Luciano, orchestrated from his prison cell, to convince the army of his strength and his means. And it proves most effective. Lucky is set free on the condition that he mobilises the "Mafia" with a view to the planned landing of American troops in Sicily.
The deal is concluded. On 22 July 1943, the Americans who had landed in Sicily several days earlier entered Palermo to the applause of an enthusiastic population. The landing is a success, well prepared thanks to the joint action of the American secret service and the Sicilian Mafia.
How close are we here to the "French Connection" or its roots? An explosive and rigorous film written by investigative journalist Jacques Roger and directed by David Korn-Brzoza.
