Easily bake bread from scratch without special tools. Make this simple round cob loaf by hand with just a jug, a couple of bowls, a flat surface, a cookie sheet and a spoon (and, of course, an oven). Neither machine nor bread pan are used. Few ingredients are needed - and they are:

∙ 4⅓ cups whole wheat flour.
∙ 2 cups warm (NOT hot) water.
∙ ⅓ cup sugar (or dried sugar cane syrup).
∙ 3 TEAspoons active dry (bread) yeast.
∙ 2 TEAspoons salt.
∙ Up to 4 TABLEspoons wheat gluten, depending on type of flour
(helps keep dough "puffed"):
∙ Stone ground whole wheat flour needs more.
∙ Finely ground pastry flour needs less.
Suggestion: Start with 4 TABLEspoons for first attempts and
reduce with more experience.
