Every time we pick up a Makita XTG tool and do a review, we end the video with a smile on our faces. While that might seem like it happens all the time, I guarantee you, it is rare. New tools come out all the time and in many cases, they are just marketing a new product with similar specs to an older model to get people to upgrade. One might feel that way about Makita's XGT line! But after using the XGT line for some time, we can see that Makita believes that to take their tools to the next level with battery power, they need more volts.

The Makita XGT line will bring 40 and 80-volt tools to high-end contractors who demand power and reliability. So far, we have only looked at the 40-volt tools and many of you have commented that your 36-volt will do the same with more runtime. We question if the 36-Volt line has the same power, but once the 80-volt stuff starts coming out, then we will see the line drawn in the sand between who wants to play with the big boys in the sandbox.

I love Milwaukee tools and their innovation. Milwaukee has said that they will not leave the 18-volt platform because they do not see a need to. At this time, Milwaukee is trailing Dewalt and Makita in circular saws, angle grinders, table saws, and miter saws. That is all due to voltage and amps. Will technology fix this issue and bring Milwaukee back to leading the pack? Who knows because Makita will be playing with 80-volts soon.

Either way, our first look into the growing Makita XGT tool line has been spectacular and we look forward to more great tools in the future.
