Professor Thaddeus Lowe, the first man to cross the Atlantic in a balloon, who also had over 200 US patents , dreamed of a railroad into the mountains of LA. He chose the hills above Altadena and on July 4th, 1893 his dream opened to the public. Destroyed by fire, the Disneyland of his time is now a fleeting memory.
