I built a modern outdoor coffee table out of 2x4s. I loved how this turned out. It matches the outdoor sofa I just built (video coming soon).

If I did this again I would:
1. Use a paint sprayer for the finish or use cedar
2. Use three 2x10s for the top since the 2x4s warped some
3. Use a darker stain

I used a table saw, orbital sander, drill/driver, miter saw and pocket hole jig. You could do this whole project with a hand saw and drill if you had to.

Cut list:
4x - 1.5x3 - 1' 2 1/2" - legs vertical
4x - 1.5x3 - 2' 1/2" - legs horizontal
1x - 1.5x3 - 3' 10 1/2" - bottom stretcher
7x - 1.5x3 - 4' 5" - slats
2x - 1.5x2.5 - 4' 5" - end slats
