The Ronstan Bridge to Bridge race was conceived in 1998 with a bet who was quicker downwind: the new Olympic 49er class or the local windsurfing fleet.

Over the years many different types of craft have raced the Ronstan Bridge to Bridge: Aussie 18’s, Hydroptere, Mod70's, and I-14's. The current course record is 9:32, set by kitefoiler Nico Parlier in 2019. The race is hosted by the St. Francis Yacht Club, one of the most innovative and progressive racing yacht clubs in the world.
