Galangal root is a Southern Asian spice. It is related to ginger and turmeric and has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine (pan ki jad ke fayde).

The root of several plants in the Zingiberaceae family is referred to as galangal. Lesser galangal, also known as Alpinia officinarum, is the most commonly used (kulanjan ki lakdi).

Galangal, like ginger and turmeric, can be eaten fresh or cooked and is a popular ingredient in many Chinese, Indonesian, Malaysian, and Thai dishes (kulanjan ke fawaid).

This spice is also used to treat various ailments, as it is thought to help treat infections, reduce inflammation, increase male fertility, and even fight multiple types of cancer.

When consumed in the amounts found in foods, galangal root is most likely safe. However, there has been little research into higher doses' safety or potential side effects, such as those found in supplements.
