Filmed in the artist's studio in the Western Highlands, Scotland.
In this rare interview, the artist speaks about her use of different drawing media, particularly her distinctive use of charcoal in her large scale works. She explains the origin of her return to pen and ink drawings through working collaboratively with her father, poet Michael Longley, and publisher Andrew Moorhouse.
What makes an artist? I guess the only certain thing is that it's a multifactorial process, the coming together of talent, environment and dedicated hard work. All three come together in Sarah Longley. The artist grew up in an environment in which her talent was encouraged from a very young age, movingly acknowledged here. Then followed her rigorous training and years of experience.
What a pleasure it was to speak with her!
