At the recent INIM conference held on May 10, 2024, Dr. Linda Chao discussed her research on treating sleep disorders as a possible gateway to treating Gulf War Illness.

She has found a significant relationship between insomnia severity, poor sleep quality, and Gulf War Illness symptoms. She also highlighted how Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBTI) helps patients develop habits and behaviors that promote good sleep. Veterans who have done CBTI have improved their insomnia and have less fatigue, depression, anxiety, and cognition over time, eventually concluding that combining elements of PAP and CBTI is a good option for them in treating their sleep disorders and other Gulf War Illness symptoms.
