■月壇公園
月壇公園は北京市の西城区に位置し、明•清両時代の皇帝が夜明神(月)と空に浮かぶ星々を祭った場所である。祭壇の表面は白い瑠璃の石がはり巡らされている。
　北京の著名な「五壇八廟」のひとつであり、またの名を夕月壇ともいう。早くは周代に、春になると太子が太陽を、秋になると月を祭っていたという。現在の月壇は明の時代、1530年に建てられ、清の時代に修繕されたものだ。国民党時代は管理が行き届かず、のざらしにされていたが、中華人民共和国成立後は修繕が行われ、1955年に公園となった。
　公園は南北ふたつの部分に分けられ、北側は赤いレンガと緑の瓦の建物が特徴的だ。南側は新しく整備され、自然と祭壇が融和して美しい。月壇公園には古代の庭園がいまだに残っており、祭壇以外にも見どころがある。祭壇の周りは塀で囲まれ、天門、神庫、具服殿などの古い建物が残っている。
　二環路沿いに位置する月壇公園は、月壇体育館の裏側にあり、地下鉄の南礼士路駅および阜成門駅から近い位置にある。ここは北京に4か所ある壇のうちで最も小さい公園だが、緑が多いため、近くの市民の憩いの場所として親しまれている。公園内には、木陰で休む人、将棋で遊ぶ人、仕事を探している人など様々な人々を見かけられる。

■Yuetan Park
Yuetan Park is one of the classic gardens in the capital and also belongs to one of the famous Five Altars and Eight Temples in Beijing.
Also known as Xiyuetan (Altar of Night Moon), the Yuetan (Altar of the Moon) lies in Xicheng District, the western suburb of the former Ming capital. The Ming and Qing Emperors once worshipped the God of Moon here. Built in 1531, originally a temple in Beijing, one of the famous temples, after 1949, the government improved the old temple and planted variety of flowers and trees. And now, Altar of the Moon is a park for the public, full of picturesque and poetic scenery. Covering an area of 120 hectares, Bell Tower, Tianmen, Shenku such ancient architecture are preserved well. It is the cultural relic of Beijing.
In the past decades, bushes and fruit trees have been planted here. In 1969, a 180-meter-tall television-broadcasting tower was erected in the park, taking up about one-eighth of its total space, according to Wang Jun, an official with the Xicheng District Gardening Bureau. During the restoration project, many damaged parts were rebuilt, including the walls of the altar, the square white marble sacrificial platform, the sacrificial routes through the park and many ancient dwellings. The Beijing municipal government and the Xicheng District government jointly earmarked 190 million Yuan for the renovation project, which also called for relocating the broadcasting tower and upgrading the park's environment. Four institutes and 178 households near the altar are also being relocated to make way for the altar wall and expanded greenery.
