edit: I'm going to go on a rent here and you don't have to read the rest of this I'M ALSO PUTTING A TRIGGER WARNING RIGHT HERE FOR THE FACT THAT I'M GOING TO TALK ABOUT SUICIDE okay, one of the things that I hate about the way that tiktok works is that it's only clips of songs or videos so things get taken out of context a lot like with all you want to do from six
One of the other ones that I hate the most that gets taken out of context is feel better by Penelope Scott I'm a person who relates to that song and cries almost every time that I listen to it because it reminds me of a specific person that I miss a lot and so I keep seeing people make edits with that song but it's with really happy clips of these couples and that's not what the song is about at all whatsoever. another one that I really hate is art is dead by Bo Burnham for a fairly similar reason specifically I've seen recently people have said like "why do you hate *insert person's name or initial here*?" and then the line "cuz he's just a little attention attractor when he grows up to be a comic or actor he'll be rewarded for never maturing for never understanding or learning that every day can't be about him there's other people you selfish asshole" and they don't seem to understand the fact that Bo is talking about himself in that song. another one that really annoys me is dinner is not over by Jack stauber it's not "autistic" it's "I've tasted" it's about suicide prevention and it is one of my favorite songs by Jack stauber because it has a very unique take on suicide prevention. I'm not saying that I hate TikTok as a whole or anything along those lines but what I am saying is that it just annoys me that so many songs that are either about serious topics or that are very comforting to certain people because they can relate to them get taken so far out of context or what people think they're about is the exact opposite of what they're actually about. and on a similar yet slightly different note this also annoys me when it comes to clips from TV shows or songs from TV shows like the "you really are obsessed aren't you? kitten." from she-ra really annoys me because they're trying to make it sound flirty and double trouble isn't being flirty they're trying to explain to catra that maybe the fact that people leave her so much isn't because they're the problem they are trying to help her and if they watch the entire scene they would know that. or literally any of the dozens of songs and clips from Steven universe that have become trends because Steven universe holds a very special place in my heart for so many different reasons, because of the person that introduced me to it, because of how amazing of a show it is, the topics that brings up, the symbolism I have Lost count of the amount of times that I have cried over this show and people use clips from it and songs from it out of context 24/7 and it really annoys me. and this doesn't go for all TikTok trends is for the ones that take things completely out of context. One that I will say I'm kind of happy hasn't really been taken out of context too terribly much is that sound from the owl House "then why were you so easy to curse?" I mean most of the time it's never the same thing but it's a similar idea.
