I came here for one reason and one reason only; to explore the Old Town of Mardin. This city was once a part of Ancient Mesopotamia, known in history as the cradle of civilisation.

As the Old City is a UNESCO site, all its structures have been well preserved with new constructions being forbidden. It’s probably due to the preservation that the city is known as an open-air museum.

As I made my way through the narrow cobblestoned alleyways and streets, I couldn’t help but notice the historic houses built from beige coloured limestone rock. A type of brick that has been mined for 100s of years in the nearby quarries.
