Audubon staff, Sarah Saunders and Stephanie Beilke joined a team of biologists from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities/ Great Lakes Piping Plover Recovery Effort (GLPIPL) Conservation Team to place color bands on Monty and Rose’s four piping plover chicks at Montrose Beach Dunes.

The banded plover chicks were released back to their parents by Clare Tan (UMN), Stephanie Beilke (Audubon Great Lakes), Cassi Saari (Chicago Park District) and Claire Raver (Cardno). Great work by all the volunteers that made this event possible!

The endangered Great Lakes Piping Plover population, once down to less than twenty pairs and only in Michigan, has rebounded thanks to recovery efforts. Learn more about the efforts here: https://bit.ly/3By6JZd
