Here's the next episode of Chordplay with The Chords Of Jimmy Nolen. I've had some requests to feature more funk guitar music and we really can't talk about funk without mentioning the father of funk guitar - Jimmy Nolen. Jimmy played alongside the late-great funk pioneer James Brown in the mid-1960s, and after leaving Brown's band around 1970, Nolen returned a few years later and continued to play with James until Nolen's passing in 1983.

This lesson focuses on a number of famous funky moments from Jimmy's time playing with James Brown and also takes a look at a classic song from Jimmy's early days with the classic Johnny Otis song 'Willie And The Hand Jive' - which was the public's introduction to his guitar playing. Other examples in this lesson include funky staples such as 'Papa's Got A Brand New Bag,' 'Cold Sweat,' 'Papa Don't Take No Mess,' 'Mother Popcorn,' and more!

If you're a fan of James Brown's music and/or funk music overall, there's plenty to sink your teeth into hiding in this lesson, as it's a great introduction to funk guitar playing, not to mention snagging some of those elusive partial and funky fragments of chords used in this style. There's a little something for everyone in this one, so dive in and have some fun!
