Saraswati river has a special place in ancient texts and Puranas. In India this river is worshiped like a goddess. According to Puranas, this river is still flowing in India. But at present this river is not visible to anyone flowing and if science is to be believed, scientists say that this river was on the earth hundreds of years ago and today this river has completely disappeared. This is the reason why today this river is not seen flowing by anyone. And if the scriptures are to be believed then Saraswati river had disappeared due to a curse and now it is not visible to anyone due to the same curse. On the other hand, according to another story, due to a boon received by this river, this river has become extinct even after being extinct. Due to the same boon, Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati are believed to meet in Prayag, while in Prayagraj the Saraswati river is never visible to anyone. Yet it continues to exist in Prayagraj even today.
According to a description found in the Mahabharata, the river Saraswati originates at a place called Adi Badri, a little above Yamunanagar in Haryana and a little below the Shivalik hills. That's why even today people consider this place as a place of pilgrimage and go there. But today the river flowing from the place called Adi Badri does not go very far, people consider this river as Saraswati river and worship it as a thin stream which is visible at different places. According to the description of Vedic and Mahabharata period, there was Brahmavarta on the banks of this river, but today there are some reservoirs there. Even today in Kurukshetra Brahmasarovar or Pehwa such crescent-shaped lakes are seen, but these have also dried up. According to the Archaeological Council of India, Saraswati originated from a glacier named Rupan in Uttaranchal. Rupan Glacier is now also known as Saraswati Glacier.
Many scientific discoveries have revealed that there was a time when earthquakes occurred in the places around Saraswati river and the mountains below the ground rose up and the water of Saraswati river went backwards. The description of another river Drishadvati also comes in the Vedic period. It was a tributary of Saraswati river. It also used to flow through Haryana. When there was a severe earthquake and the mountains rose up under the soil of Haryana and Rajasthan, the direction of the flow of the rivers changed. At that time the Drishadvati river, which was a tributary of Saraswati river, started flowing towards north and east. This Drishadvati is now called Yamuna river, its history is believed to be 4,000 years ago. Yamuna river was earlier a tributary of Chambal. When the ground rose due to the earthquake, the water of Saraswati fell into the Yamuna and Saraswati river joined the Yamuna. Prayag has been considered as the confluence of three rivers for this reason because the Saraswati river still flows secretly there. Whereas according to the scientists, this river has become extinct and this river never reached Prayagraj.
