An explanation of the fallacy of appealing to the masses, also known as the appeal to popularity, and jumping on the bandwagon. Just because a belief or action is popular, does not mean it is right or true. Popularity is not a reliable indicator for truth. Nor is it reliable for determining what is ethically good. The truth may be unpopular and the right ethically good action may also be unpopular. When someone substitutes truth or ethics for popularity, they commit this fallacy. Asses the proposition on its own and avoid this fallacy.
