In this video, we are taking you to Sahasra Linga of Sirsi and Sonde Vadiraja Mutt via beautiful Devimane ghat road which connects Kumta to Sirsi.
We started our trip to Uttarakannada from our hometown Brahmavara and visited Maravate Beach, Murudeshwara, Mirjana fort, and Yana Caves on 1 Nov 2019.
We stayed at Mahalaxmi comforts at Kumta and must say it was a pretty decent place to stay around Kumta. It also has a good veg restaurant downstairs.
We started our journey on the morning of 2nd November 2019 from Kumta to Sirsi. Our plan was to cover Sahasra Linga of Sirsi, Sonde Vadiraja Mutt in the morning and after lunch, we planned to visit Magod Falls near Yellapur and on the way back to visit Sirsi Markimaba Temple and Madhukeshwara temple of Banavasi.

Devimane ghat road:
Sirsi is 60 km from Kumta via Devimae ghat road. Devimane ghat road connects the coastal town of Kumta to Malenadu Town Sirsi.
This ghat road elevates from sea level to an altitude of 600 meters and has around 15 hairpin curves. A viewpoint near Durga devi temple of Devimane offers a divine view of western ghats. We stopped there for a few minutes to enjoy the view and proceeded towards Sirsi. On reaching Sirsi town we stopped at Hotel Meenakshi Bhavana for the breakfast. Meenakshi Bhavan is a good veg restaurant to have a quick breakfast though it is located in the interior part of the Sirsi town.
After breakfast, we headed towards Sahasra Linga located at Hulagol village which is just 14 km from Sirsi town.

Sahasra Linga:
Sahasralinga is known for its 1000 Shiva Lingas that are carved on the rocks along the banks of the Shalmala river.
According to the legend, one of the Swadi rulers, Arasappa Nayak, who ruled here from 1678-1718 AD, carved these lingas to gain successors to the throne.
Another legend says that sculptors practiced carvings before the construction of various stone temples in this area under Swadi rulers.
A hanging bridge was constructed across the Shalmala river in 2011.
This bridge connects the Bhairumbe Hulekal village from Hulagol is Sirsi Taluk
This hanging bridge provides a beautiful view of the Shalmala river and the Shivalingas present across the river.
About 14 villages of Sirsiand Bhairumbe grama panchayat are connected by this bridge and the distance to Sirsi from these villages will be reduced by about 15 km.
Next, we proceeded towards Sonde Vadiraja Mutt which is 9 Km from Sahasra Linga.

Sonde Vadiraja Mutha:
Before visiting the mutt, we entered a beautiful old temple named Ramaa Trivikrama Temple located on the huge campus of the Vadiraja matha.
Rama Trivikrama temple was by Arasappa Nayaka during 1582 CE
This is the only temple dedicated to Lord Trivikrama in the whole of India
and the shrine was carried by Sri Bhuta Raja for Sri Vadiraja Tîrtha from Badarikashrama. Legend says that the main deity idol was brought from Ashrama of Shri Vedavyasa of Badarinath
It is said that Shri Bhootaraja brought the idol along with the chariot taking order from Shri Vadiraja gurusaarvabhauma.
The Sonde Matha or Sodhe Matha is part of the Ashta mathas set up by Sri Madhvacharya.
This Matha was established by a Dvaita saint, Sri Vadirajatirtha.
It is believed that at the age of 120 years, the saint entered Samadhi alive from this matha. His mortal remains are enshrined in the matha.
It is believed that Shri Bhootaraja had to fight with a Rakshasa on the way and used one of the wheels of the chariot as a weapon
