When asked about what the UK election is about, Ajmal Masroor quickly responds with one word: "Palestine."
In recent months, many in the UK Muslim community and beyond have expressed feeling angered or betrayed by the Labour Party’s stance on Gaza. This sentiment, reflected in recent polls, has driven several candidates to stand as independents in the upcoming UK general elections.
Masroor, an imam and broadcaster, is one of those candidates who has made Gaza a focal point of his campaign as he aims to unseat Labour in his Bethnal Green and Stepney riding in east London.
Will it be enough?
We sat down on Real Talk to discuss Masroor’s campaign, his view of the Labour Party’s Gaza stance and how he believes it will shape UK politics moving forward.
