The last train passing by on the rusty tracks of the Vennbahn.

This railroad carried her passengers for more than a decade between the beautiful landscapes of the Belgium Ardenne region.

During the 1st and 2nd World war, this railroad connection played a significant role in transporting troops and other military equipment to the frontlines. Some parts where such severe damaged by allied bombings, that they where never rebuild. After being in service for more than 115 years, the last sections where closed down in 2004.

Stil today the Vennbahn gets in the news because of its border characteristics. The railroad lays partely on German territory but crosses no borders because the line itsself lays on Belgium grounds. For example If you are crossing the railroad in Germany in order to get to a German town on the other side, you have to cross Belgium territory.

German rail company Euregiobahn wants to reactivate the section Aachen - Eupen. (2009)
