Gilmore Girls is a multigenerational drama about family and friendship centered around Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter, Rory. After getting pregnant at sixteen, Lorelai ran away from her parent’s house to a picturesque Connecticut town called Stars Hollow populated by a mix of dreamers, artists and everyday folk. Lorelai worked up the ladder at the local Inn from being a maid to eventually running the place. Now fast forward fifteen years later and Rory wants to attend a private school in hopes of it helping aid her in the dream of attending Harvard and becoming a famous journalist that travels the world and reports what's really going on across the globe, seeing it up close with her own eyes. But to accomplish this they must pay a hefty tuition fee to the private school, Chilton. Lorelai ends up making a deal with her parents to help financially back Rory when it comes to Chilton tuition, in exchange for weekly family dinners. Gilmore Girls is an example of many things, great dialog writing, amazing acting, the ability to capture such a specific vibe that people rewatch this show all the time. But one thing that this show does perfectly is character writing. The characters in Gilmore Girls feel like real people. This is not only a good reason to just simply enjoy this show but also a great reason to use it as an example if you want to write good and believable characters yourself.
