I've wanted to get a 10.5" 4-track tape deck for a long time. I took a chance on buying one untested and having it shipped to me, knowing that it had been sitting for at least a couple of years with no use and realizing that I would probably have to do something to it in order to get it going again. This video shows the unboxing, repair, and a brief playback demonstration on the deck. Fortunately the repairs were of a mechanical nature - so I was able to get everything moving smoothly without too much hassle.

A common problem with tape decks that sit unused for long periods is that grease and oil harden over time, becoming more like a glue than a lubricant. This is what happened to the pinch roller arm mechanism, so I needed to disassemble, clean and lubricate the arm in order to make playback and speed regulation on the deck functional. As a side note - before I did the demonstration and hooked everything back up, I cleaned the tape heads with alcohol, polished up exterior of the deck, and also lubricated the pots and switches with some Deoxit. I didn't outline any of that in the video.

This video was kind of a last minute idea, but I hope you enjoyed it and found it useful/informative if you have a deck like this in need of some TLC.
