"There are many ways of practicing Zhan Zhuang, and according to the level and system of belonging can take on different functions. But in any case, the most common mistake is to think that it is an entirely static practice. The static appearance contains an infinity of internal movements that you can understand only through the guidance of a teacher. The Yao family is among the most known cinese martial families in the Yi Quan field. Their way of practicing has become a reference for many practitioners in China and in the West.

In this video, Master Yao Cheng Guang describes some of the visualizations needed to create the internal movement. I don't know how many Western students have had the chance to appreciated the richness of detail in his explanations. I hope this video will help you to understand the complexity of an exercise that, unfortunately, has often been trivialized and ridiculed.

To better follow the interview, it may be necessary to slow down the video, Yao speaks continuously for eight intense minutes."
