Persija is a football club based out of Jakarta, Indonesia. In a big city with many choices of entertainment, Persija was able to create popularity mainly due to the efforts of the supporter's group Jakmania, who since 1997 have been on a mission to convince Jakartans to identify with their local football club. This game, in particular, was special because 1) It was being played against their rivals Persebaya Surabaya ( so strong is the rivalry that no away fans are allowed), 2) It marked the end of an era for both the club and the supporters group, with two legends in either field ( Bambang Pamungkas and Bung Ferry) would retire from their respective roles of a footballer and a leader of the supporters group. Intense atmosphere, pyros, rival fans being caught in the stands, protests and then a massive spillover to the pitch at the final whistle - this game had everything.
