Is a Norwegian Cruise Shore Excursion the best thing for you? Today we explore Geiranger, Norway. We are here on a cruise with Norwegian Cruise Lines #ncl. While researching things to do at this cruise stop, I found that the options were limited. We decided to book a bus tour through the cruise line.
We chose the Dalsnibba Mountain with Coffee Shop. The coach will take you up the winding mountain road offering ever changing kaleidoscope views of the mountains and the fjord below. We were somewhat skeptical about the tour since it was on a bus with 60 or so of our "Closest friends". LOL
The bus turned out to be quite nice and the number of people was manageable. Everyone was nice and friendly and mindful of the time. Our tour guide was excellent and I enjoyed hearing about the area as we drove along. I'm not sure that all tours get the same stops and service that we did. The guide mentioned several times that we were making good time because the weather was so nice and towards the end of he trip she did say they were making an "Extra" stop because there was time.
The first stop we made was at Djupvasshytta Lodge. This was a beautiful spot! The lake, Lake Djupvatn, surrounded by the mountains was breathtaking!
The trip up to Mount Dalsnibba was exciting as the bus wound it's way up to 5,000 feet/ 1,500 meters. The views from here make you feel like you are on top of he world! The Sky Walk is appropriately named because you are walking in THE SKY!
On our trip back to Geiranger we stopped at Flydal viewpoint. We got more beautiful views of the ship and the mountains! Our day was truly magical. To top it off our guide then took us to sit in "The Queen's Chair". This stone throne was made and placed here for the Queen of Norway, Queen Sonja Harald, so she could sit and take in this beautiful part of her country. When the queen is not there, visitors can sit and enjoy the scenery! It was a fun stop!
When we got back we had plenty of time to hike the waterfall trail, located just outside the town. This was such a fun hike and we would highly recommend. There are many steps so just be prepared for that!
The shore excursion that we experienced was great! I couldn't have asked for a better day. We were so pleased with our choice for the day.
If you are looking for a place to eat local, delicious food while in Geiranger, be sure to visit Brasserie Posten. Located right off the dock this was an amazing place to sample local Norwegian food. The price wasn't to bad but I would say to make a reservation. With only 35 seats they filled up fast!
Thank you so much for watching. We REALLY appreciate each person who takes their time to watch one of our adventures!
We know that we are "Living the GOOD Life!" and we hope that you are too!
See you next Sunday for another exciting adventure in Norway!
