Join us for a walk in Minehead, Somerset, UK. Our walk starts in Minehead town centre. We walk through the town, down to the seafront and Minehead Beach, then along the seafront to Butlins Minehead. Along the way we take a look at the Steampunk Festival and see the Minehead shops.

We stop at Minehead Railway Station, first opened in 1874 as the terminus and headquarters of the Minehead Railway, it was closed by British Rail early in 1971. Minehead Station reopened in 1976 and is now the terminus and headquarters of the West Somerset Railway. West Somerset Railway is a heritage steam railway operating between Minehead and Bishop's Lydeard, near Taunton. At 20 miles it is the longest independent railway in Britain and the longest Heritage line in the United Kingdom.

Minehead's major tourist attraction is Butlins holiday camp, which opened in Minehead in 1962. Butlins Minehead is the largest of the three Butlins resorts. The other Butlins resorts are Skegness and Bognor Regis.

The lovely seaside town of Minehead sits on the edge of Exmoor National Park in West Somerset and is the area’s largest town. It is also the starting point of the South West Coast Path National Trail. The UK's longest countryside walking trail stretching for 630 miles along the South West Coast to Poole in Dorset.

Minehead offers the perfect destination for a family seaside holiday. It boasts a wonderful long flat sandy beach, a charming harbour, a bustling town with Independent shops and cafes and heritage attractions.

Our walk starts in Wellington Square by the Statue of Queen Anne, Minehead and The Duke Of Wellington pub (Wetherspoons). We walk down The Parade and The Avenue - Minehead’s main shopping street which is just off the seafront and offers a variety of shops, bars and restaurants. Minehead has a variety of well known high street stores, together with independent local shops.

Minehead is located on the Bristol Channel coast of South West England and experiences one of the highest tidal ranges in the world. Along with the rest of South West England, Minehead has a temperate climate which is generally wetter and milder than the rest of England.
